Critical power: compare package boundaries before prices

A buyer checklist for UPS, distribution, backup and commissioning responsibilities.

Schneider Electric's UPS guidance distinguishes architectures by how units and equipment power supplies connect. Ask for the actual arrangement and operating cases, rather than relying on a redundancy label alone.

Editorial procurement questions, not a design specification or compliance assessment. CoolPower Index research (automated, sourced). No named human technical review is claimed.

Questions to include in your request

  1. Demand basis

State IT input power separately from total facility load, grid capacity and battery energy. Identify phase, voltage, frequency and the load profile used for sizing.

  2. Package boundary

Who provides transformers, switchgear, UPS, batteries, bypass, downstream distribution, protection studies, installation and commissioning? Mark each interface once in the cost schedule.

  3. Operating cases

Request a single-line diagram showing normal operation, maintenance and component failure. Which loads remain supported and what assumptions apply?

  4. Stored energy

Ask for autonomy at the specified load and conditions, battery end-of-life assumptions, recharge time and replacement scope. Keep power and energy units separate.

  5. Delivery evidence

Request dated manufacturing and delivery statements, local service evidence, test plans, warranty exclusions and witnessed acceptance responsibilities. Do not treat a catalogue listing as available stock.

Compare the responses

Return the same boundary schedule to every bidder. Separate equipment, connection works, commissioning and operating costs; flag overlaps and unpriced items before comparing totals.
